There are many success stories to tell….
We are just as thrilled with the little stories of success as we are with the major changes in a child’s life.
The two siblings that were promised “a safe home” did come to live at the first home in 1990. They are adults now and productive citizens giving back to their communities. Becky was diagnosed as a teen with disabilities due to her childhood abuse. Her future looked limited and consisted of residing in an adult group home under continual care. Today, with the unconditional love and care from a community team and this agency, she is a loving mother, owns and drives a car, independent and working to provide for her little family. She became a first time homeowner in 2001 and we are all so proud of her.
Her brother, Donald is married with a blended family. He has been an active member of the military and has served on board the U.S.S. Lincoln in the Navy. He remains dedicated to this nation and now a civilian, he is attending college with dreams of helping children in need. We remain in continual contact with these first two youth for whom the Village was promised back in 1982. They are adults of character and unselfish concern for others.
We are proud of the daily success stories that our youth share with all of us. When they hold up a school paper to share the first “A” they ever received, we are as proud as any parent. When the toddler is finally “potty trained” or is able to hold his own cup and say, “Tank You”, we all shout the good news. When an infant is dropped off at the Crisis Nursery by a mother that is fleeing domestic violence and drug abuse, we whisper a “Thank You” to our supporters. Perhaps today a life was saved.
